Chinese calligraphy writing  course February -March 2025

Time: Thursdays 16:30-18:30

The subject of this course is the Chinese calligraphy style, which is performed using ink, brush and rice paper.
The course focuses on both technical skills, creative expression and the mastering of the special rhytm of calligraphy writing.
Calligraphy writing requires consistent practice and patience, with a focus on improving brushwork and character form over time.

Course contents:

Tools and Materials
Students will learn about the tools used in calligraphy which is brushes, ink, rice paper and felt

Technique
Students will learn how to hold the brush and practice controlling brushstrokes, including brush pressure, direction, and connection. Through stroke exercises and character practice, students will understand brushwork sequence, structure, rhythm, and meaning. 

Feedback
Throughout the course, students will receive feedback and encouragement from the instructor. Calligraphy writing requires consistent practice and patience, with a focus on improving brushwork and character form over time.

The course content and our progress will be adjusted to the level of each student and the students specific wishes, students will receive feedback and encouragement on their work from the instructor. We focus on what you can learn and how you can express your creativity. You may join this course again and proceed learning more, as practices can be adapted to your level.

Level: Suitable for everyone who has a basic or no previous experience in calligraphy writing.

Materials: We use various instruments, tools and materials like brushes, ink, rice paper and apron.
All materials needed will be supplied by Studio.8.

At the end of the season, all students are invited to join our Students Exhibition in our Studio.8 Gallery, and students may select own art works for the exhibition.
